Data from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Administration for Community Living shows that, while nearly one in 10 American seniors are abused or neglected every year, only one in 14 cases are ever pursued or brought to the attention of authorities.
In order to help raise awareness for this threat, the United Nations (UN) designated June 15 as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day back in 2011. Additionally, the month of June is considered World Elder Abuse Awareness Month.
Resources For Elder Abuse Awareness
This campaign provides a time for government agencies and other organizations to promote events that alert communities, seniors, and families about the signs of elder abuse and emphasize the importance of recognizing and reporting such instances.

In the event of an emergency regarding elder abuse, call 9-1-1 and report the situation immediately to ensure the safety of the individual. In the event of a non-emergency situation, you can use the online Elder Care Locator or call 1-800-677-1116 to find your local elder care agency. Your next step should be to contact an experienced attorney to discuss what options you may have moving forward.
