What is Disability?

The Social Security Administration defines disability as the “inability to engage in any substantial gainful activity because of a determinable physical or mental impairment.” This impairment must be expected to last at least 12 months or until death, or have already existed for 12 months. If you cannot perform the work that you did prior to your disability and cannot adjust your job to accommodate your medical condition, you may qualify for Social Security Disability Insurance.

How Do I Apply for SSDI?

You can apply for benefits in person by visiting your nearest Social Security office, online, or by phone interview. Unfortunately, the process can get complicated and the paperwork can be arduous. This is where a lawyer may be extremely helpful.

What Documents Do I Need to Apply for SSDI?

You may need to provide your Social Security card, your birth certificate, military discharge papers if you are a servicemember, and tax information. The SSA will also want to see medical records that confirm your disability. Make sure to inform all your doctors of your intent to apply so that they can prepare all the necessary paperwork.

What Are the Chances That I Will Be Denied SSDI?

Unfortunately, about 60% of all SSDI applications are denied. If you are in this boat, we may be able to help. Our experienced attorneys understand the complicated requirements of the Social Security Administration and may be able to represent you at an appeal.

Why Should I Hire a Hernando SSDI Lawyer?

While you can file your SSDI application without assistance, we may be able to simplify the process for you. If you have already applied for disability and were denied, a lawyer can work on your appeal and make sure that you have all the proper documentation to evidence your claims. We want to get you the disability you deserve faster.
